Love Disaster
2011

Installation; maquette, collage, video and performance
Hotel Maria Kapel, Hoorn at SUPERMARKET art fair, Kulturhuset in Stockholm, Sweden
Format installation 5 x 3m

The installation Love Disaster, created by Mariëlle Videler for the art fair in Stockholm, is inspired by two opposite desires: ecstasy and control. When a party degenerates into a disaster, like what happened in 2010 on the Love Parade in Germany, the two desires clash in a very confronting way. Opposite elements like images from defeated party people and ground plans of nightclubs where mixed with prevention regulations, symbols and codes. The performer, Mariëlle Videler who is the daughter of a fireman, lay flat under in the stage, not visible but audible through a grate and reading out loud a long list of fire regulations published in the Staats blad van het Koninkrijk der Nederlanden.
