performance

"Sometimes you are sitting on the train and someone comes and sits down just a little too close. You can feel it — a space that shouldn't be crossed, and yet is."
Addressing this, trying to make it visible, is in Videler's opinion only possible through performance.
The title Dranger refers, quite literally, to the Dutch word for a spring-mounted bar that makes a door close by itself — a small mechanism built to enforce a boundary. But the word also hangs onto other meanings: hanger, dangler, and drang, an inner pull or urge.Between the mechanical and the human, the same tension repeats: something pressing to close a distance that should never have been crossed.
